Initial Thoughts
At first, I was quite confused and did not know what field this company was in. In my mind, I thought it was about the business of a certain product like tires or food products, but I did not expect that when I clicked on the company name, images of research labs and medicine appeared. CSL is a multinational specialty biotechnology company of Australia focus on research, develop, marketing and manufacture product about medicines and vaccines to support as well as prevent serious diseases which related to human health. In addition, the company is including three businesses that are CSL Behring, CSL Seqirus and CSL Vifor, especially, they provide products to people in more than 100 countries. Furthermore, rare and serious diseases, influenza vaccines and iron deficiency and nephrology are three distinct areas they focus on.
The Annual Report
My company annual report with 172 pages as at the end 30 June 2023. I wonder if I must read those pages to grasp the information in the report. After reading the first pages of the report, I was able to grasp some information about purpose, value, position and main contents of the report including financial statements, corporate strategic initiatives, social responsibility and management discussion and analysis, risk and challenges.
From 2020 to 2023, total operating revenue witnessed continually growth with 13,3 billion in 2023. This is truly an astonishing number and I also really wonder what it will be like in the coming years.
Meanwhile, the report also has data on important financial activities such as Net profit after tax/ Earnings per share, cash inflow from operating activities and annual return on invested capital, which were significantly reduced in 2023. This means that investment capital is becoming less and less. Therefore, in my opinion, CSL should find more investment capital to serve research and production activities more effectively.
Key opportunities & risks
The field of CSL company tends to be fast growth rate and constantly evolving field, so this means that many difficulties and challenges will arise. These challenges include research risks and clinical trials. In addition, CSL's global operations may also be affected by external factors such as information and data theft by cyber criminals. Meanwhile, innovation in technology products and breakthrough therapies such as gene therapy and stem cells can impact costs as well as affect the platform and capabilities of plasma fractionation, recombinant technology and vaccine technology. Furthermore, the challenge is to ensure absolute safety for patients as well as the quality of products that must be standards. In addition, insufficient or delayed supply and operational capacity can also influence their operations through product manufacturing and research.
Although there are many challenges that will affect the company, they have found several strategies to address these issues.
First, they comply with processes and procedures as well as ensure product information contains enough specific information to minimize dangerous problems that may occur to patients. In addition, they also seek to address issues of system risk management and strict security of data and information to prevent cybercrime. Meanwhile, the production and supply process is also regularly inspected by independent regulatory agencies. The development and lifecycle management of new products and therapies have been incorporated to be suitable for each therapeutic area. Finally, suppliers of raw materials, software and production equipment are also monitored and scaled to useful business needs and growth goals.

How do I feel about my company?
When I received CSL company, I thought it was difficult for me because it was related to biotechnology which I had never touched before. But I accepted the challenge, tried to find the information and read their reports. This renewed various information about this field in my mind, and I gradually became more interested in it. I see it as a very necessary and important company in people's lives, it helps a lot in creating products to prevent serious diseases. I feel very happy with this company that made me want to learn more about this field.
